A St. Augustine Bridge Company was incorporated in May 16, 1892 under the general incorporation laws of Florida, by O. B. Smith, M. S. Carter, Mathew Hays, Allen Wood and W. W. Dewhurst, for the purpose of constructing, maintaining & operating the toll bridge between a select few point in the city of St. Augustine and Anastasia island.

Florida state law chapter 4279, approved June 2, 1893, extended the powers of the company to include issuing bonds, & involved the bridge to become a drawbridge. A toll was does'nt to exceed 5 cents by the footer, 25 cents for of these-jerkwater vehicles, 50 cents for 2-horse vehicles, & more sensible rates for more classes.

A corporation would dissolve when 99 years.
